A school trip to Santiago offers students a structured way to explore one of Spain’s most historic cities while experiencing the surrounding Galician coastline. Santiago de Compostela blends medieval streets, university tradition and centuries of pilgrimage, giving groups a clear educational context. The Cathedral, Obradoiro Square and the old town help students visualise how religion, architecture and civic life shaped the city across time.

This four-day itinerary balances cultural visits with hands-on learning and outdoor activities. A cooking workshop introduces Galician food culture, while a guided bike tour helps students understand the city’s layout and daily life. The programme also extends beyond Santiago: a full day in A Coruña allows exploration of the Atlantic coastline, and the excursion to Finisterre offers wide horizons for discussing geography, environment and maritime history. Short transfers and a varied rhythm help teachers maintain oversight while students gain insight into both urban and coastal Galicia.

Highlights:

  • Key historic sites: Santiago Cathedral, Obradoiro Square, university district
  • Outdoor activities and coastal landscapes: A Coruña, Riazor Beach, Finisterre
  • Hands-on learning: Galician cooking workshop
  • Cultural enrichment: traditional dance and music performance
  • Balanced pacing suitable for school trips
